A couple getting a divorce argued fiercely in court last week in Chongqing
Municipality over custody of their dog.
The husband, Zhang Jian, and his wife, Liu Ping, were classmates in college. They graduated in 2002 and married in 2004. Late last year, the marriage soured. Liu decided to divorce Zhang and take the dog they had purchased in 2005.
But the husband wanted joint custody of the dog, which is a valuable
species, and because she was pregnant, her puppies would be expensive.
The court finally gave the dog to Liu because she had spent more time
caring for it.
