A man has been sentenced to eight months' jail for stealing a pet dog in Zengcheng, a suburb of Guangzhou.

    The man, Liang, was also fined 1,000 yuan (US$127) by the Zengcheng Intermediate People's Court.

    Liang, a local resident, broke into a Zengjiang Street pet store and stole the dog, worth 3,600 yuan (US$460), in July.

    He was arrested when he later tried to sell the dog.
